So, writing.

1 min read
I'll post writing I guess lol. I'm weirdly self-conscious about it thought even though I share it with people in real life all the time......

Some of my favorite things won't be posted though, because I'm saving them for magazine submissions. If they get accepted and it's allowed, I'll post them here eventually. c:

So, anyone still here? How have you guys been? Anyone been watching some playoff hockey?

Question.

Should I post cosplay photos here? I don't draw anymore, and nobody would give a poop about my writing, so there's nothing else to post, really.

SO OTAKON. WHERE TO START.

I'll start with comparing it to other cons. Obviously, it's significantly bigger. 31,000+ people. There are a lot more lines, and the hallways are much more crowded. The con is so big that it took place in multiple buildings, which meant a lot of walking. The artist alley room alone was bigger than the main room where the opening ceremonies are held at Nebraskon, to give you an idea.

On the streets around the con, there are homeless people asking for money, and people trying to sell you stuff EVERYWHERE. There are also a lot of really, really good cosplayers. Like, some unbelievable stuff. There's also more media people there, like news stations and whatnot. The guests are incredible, they're some really big name people.

The location is really nice, it's right on the harbor, and part of where the con is held is right across the street from the Oriels' stadium. It's a pretty clean place for how many people are there, besides the constantly overflowing trashcans. It was relatively well organized too, there weren't any major problems that I noticed. But the food in the convention center is crazy expensive. Don't buy it.

As for the cosplays, Dave from Homestuck was by far the most popular character, holy crap. There were Daves EVERYWHERE. Grell was a really popular choice too, and there were also a lot of Scouts. For Hetalia, there were mostly Italies and Americas. Homestuck was definitely the most popular series there, but Black Butler would have been pretty close behind it.

Anyway, this is how it went.

Friday:
me up with my lovely bff xkurix at the hotel~ haven't seen her in a long time, so it was nice! Our room wasn't ready yet, so we just changed in the hotel bathroom and then went to the con! We got our badges really fast, so we didn't have to wait in a line, which was nice. Overall, that day was...meh. We ate at Noodles and co. which was delicious, as always. And the Akira Sasanuma and Bob Shirohata Q&A panel was awesome, besides people asking them the same questions over and over. Nothing too exciting happened that day, and I wasn't feeling very well so it wasn't the best start to the con. The opening ceremonies was very lackluster, not fun, like the Nebraskon ones. And it was very crowded. The line for the Death Note Mafia panel was so long that we just left. It was also 102 degrees or something that day, and I was in my full England cosplay, which was probably why I didn't feel well. Finding our very first Kotetsu cosplayer was AWESOME though. We also saw a great Soren! That about sums up day one. We didn't see our other roomies much, because we were all doing different things.

Saturday:

We were Spain and Romano and people were asking for our pictures before we even got into the convention center. We were in a toooon of photos. We wandered a little bit when we got there, then went to the Hetalia premier which was…well, I'm pretty sure it was like what a Justin Bieber concert would be like. So many screaming teenage girls. Screaming over half the episodes so you couldn't even hear. It gave me a headache. I'll admit to screaming a little when they announced Iceland's voice actor, but that was it. It wasn't the NON-STOP, EARDRUM SHATTERING screaming that the girls behind us were doing.

After that, we roamed the halls some more. Otakon is a great con for that. Just people watching and stuff. There's a lot of really talented cosplayers there, so it was fun to just walk around and see them all. We also walked around the huuuuuge artist alley and dealers room. All I was really interested in were a few manga volumes, and Tiger and Bunny stuff, and I found very little of either of them. Le sigh. I only bought two prints and a sticker at the whole con.

Later, we tried to go to the Hetalia cast autographs, but were turned away because we didn't have tickets. I was piiiiiiiiiiissed. I didn't know anything about needing tickets to get autographs, I was not expecting that. And the only other Hetalia autograph session was during the Tiger and Bunny panel, so it sucked.

After that we walked about six or seven blocks to the building with the masquerade. It was fun to watch, but set up reeeeally stupidly. There were so many people there, it was crazy. First, the hall cosplay people were all on stage, which I thought defeated the purpose of hall cosplay, but whatever. They were all great. Then, they had the skits. Some of them were just…painful. Really painful. Horrible singing and awkwardness everywhere. But some of them were great, particularly the Blue Exorcist one. I highly recommend looking for it on YouTube, it was amazing. Really.

Look it up. After that, they had an intermission before just the regular costumes. A veeeeery long intermission. They had the Angel Scandys cast up on stage singing and struggling to speak English and stuff. They did fine, but I just wanted to see costumes, honestly. And it was taking forever, so we left to go get food.

After that, we went back to the con for some reason, but I don't think we went to any panels. We found more Kotetsus though. Then we sat down to take a break because our feet hurt. And then we saw them. BARNABYS. We were looking for them all weekend, and we finally found some. So we ran down an escalator and across a room and outside to catch up with them, and got a picture. They had a Kotetsu with them, and they were all very awesome and very sweet. <3

After that…I honestly don't even remember what we did. Went back to the room and slept, I guess.

Sunday:

Yuki and Akito today. Got to the con relatively early, and went to the Tiger and Bunny panel, which was WONDERFUL AHHHH. Best panel. For sure. I could go on about it forever, but I won't, lol. All the fans there were wonderful, they asked great questions and Mr. Ozaki gave great answers...it had the vibe of how Hetalia used to be way back in the day, where it felt like we were all a bunch of bros. There were some awesome things announced, and it was just a lot of fun. I'm definitely inspired to finish a T&B cosplay now.

After that we roamed the dealers room and artist alley, and met some other Furuba people and hung out with them for the rest of the day. We did a mini-photo shoot, then went to the closing ceremonies and feedback panel.

Once it was all over, we ate, then went back to the hotel. I left Baltimore around 6:45, and got home near 8:30. The end.

Starting my next cosplay, which is ridiculous, very soon. I'm excited~ Next con will hopefully be Nebraskon.

If you read all of this…bless your heart, you must be so bored.
